Raiders fall Saturday afternoon on PK golden goal

DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team fell victim to an overtime penalty kick goal on Saturday afternoon as visiting Oakland handed the Raiders a 3-2 loss at Alumni Field.

Wright State (4-7-1, 3-4-1 HL) jumped ahead 22 seconds into the match and led late, only to see Oakland (6-5-2, 5-1-1 HL) tally an 86th minute goal to force the extra time. Deep in the first overtime, a foul deep in the box set up the visitors for the PK opportunity, and Mikey Kettemen found the back of the net to give Oakland the road win.

The Raiders saw Reece Allbaugh score in the opening minute thanks to an assist from Ids Hannema, but did not have the lead for long, as Oakland tied the game in the 10th minute on Dylan Borczak's goal. The match remained tied through the half before the tandem of Allbaugh and Hannema linked up again – this time with Hannema finding the back of the net – early in the second half in the 53rd minute.

Oakland controlled much of the match following the Wright State go-ahead goal, and finally found success in the 86th minute when Borczak found the back of the net for the second time in the match to force the overtime and eventual PK winner.

Wright State outshot Oakland 12-6, with a 7-6 advantage in shots on frame. Allbaugh paced all players with four shots, while Conner Osterholt and Brayden McNitt each had two shots for the Raiders. Borczak, Ketteman and Charlie Braithwaite all had two shots to lead Oakland.

The Raiders are back in action Tuesday night on the road as they step out of Horizon League action and travel to take on Marshall. Wright State then makes a trip to take on Duquesne on October 26 before closing the regular season with HL matchups against Cleveland State and Detroit Mercy.
