Volleyball set for midweek action Tuesday at RMU

DAYTON -Â The Wright State volleyball team hits the road for a Tuesday night midweek match at Robert Morris, with the match set for a 6 p.m. start. The Raiders come into the week riding a six-match winning streak, while Robert Morris has dropped its last three matches.

Wright State tallied back-to-back sweeps over Cleveland State and Oakland last weekend to run the Raiders' winning streak to six matches. Against Cleveland State, Celia Powers led all players with 11 kills in the sweep, while Callie Martin was also in double digits with 10 kills of her own. Nyssa Baker and Megan Alders each had six kills, while Baker added a match-high seven blocks. On Saturday against Oakland, the Raiders had three players finish with double doubles, as Callie Martin, Jenna Story and Lainey Stephenson racked up on the stat book. Martin finished with 13 kills and added 14 digs, while Story posted a 26 dig, 13 assist afternoon. Stephenson divvied out a match-high 28 assists and added 23 digs.

Jenna Story will enter Tuesday night's match six digs shy of resetting the Wright State program career digs record, currently 2,088 held by Jessie Thornton. Story has earned back-to-back Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year honors and AVCA Northeast Region honorable mention honors. She has cemented herself as one of the top defensive players in the country over the years and enters Tuesday's match ranked second nationally with 439 digs through 20 matches this season.
KNOW THE FOES
Robert Morris is 9-12 on the season with a 2-7 Horizon League mark but is in the middle of its third three-match losing streak of the year, dropping three three-set decisions last week on the road. RMU enters action this week leading the Horizon League in service aces with an average of 1.97 per set. In 78 sets during the 2021 campaign, the Colonials have racked up 154 service aces. Robert Morris finished with a 4-12 overall record, all in League play, in spring 2021 in its first season in the Horizon. Wright State won both meetings last spring, 3-1 and 3-0 at RMU, and has now won all five matchups all-time.
BROOM SWEEP
Wright State has strung together six consecutive three-set sweeps dating back to October 3 at Green Bay, the longest stretch of consecutive sweeps under head coach Allie Matters. In the spring season, the Raiders finished with 12 three-set sweep wins out of their 17 victories, while the current squad has tallied sweeps in eight of its 14 wins to date.Â
