Men's Soccer drops season opener on the road

The Wright State men's soccer team was unable to get the year started as it had hoped, as the Raiders fell 7-1 at Akron on Thursday night in the 2021 season opener.
Akron (1-0) tallied four first half goals and had extended its lead to five early in the second half before the Raiders found the back of the net and the scoreboard in the 60th minute. Joe Kouadio worked a give and go with Ian Gomez to beat the keeper and get the Raiders on the board. The goal was unable to turn the tide, however, as the hosts two final goals to end the night.
The Raiders were outshot 18-6, managing only two shots on frame to Akron's 10, while holding a slim, 7-6 advantage in corner kick opportunities. In addition to Kouadio, Harvey Slade was the other Raider to send a shot on frame as six different Wright State players each tallied a shot.
Wright State continues its season-opening road trip on Monday night with a visit to Kentucky. Match time is slated for 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
