Raider Volleyball closes non-conference action this weekend in Milwaukee

DAYTON - The Wright State volleyball team closes non-conference play this weekend in the Marquette Invitational, opening the weekend against Northern Iowa on Friday at 11 a.m. ET before taking on tournament host Marquette Friday night at 8 p.m. ET. Wright State closes the tournament against UTSA on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The Raiders are coming off a third-straight 2-1 tournament weekend, tallying a pair of wins the Flyer-Raider Invitational, including a thrilling, five-set victory over Dayton on Friday night.

Wright State is coming off its third consecutive 2-1 tournament weekend, tallying wins over Central Michigan and Dayton as the Raiders co-hosted the Flyer-Raider Invitational, tallying a three-set win over Central Michigan and a five-set comeback victory at Dayton.

MARQUETTE INVITATIONAL
This week, Wright State hits the road for the first time since the opening weekend of the season, heading to a familiar city in Milwaukee. The Raiders, who annually visit the city for matchups with Horizon League foe Milwaukee, will join Northern Iowa and UTSA, along with tournament host Marquette, for this weekend's action.

KNOW THE FOES
-Northern Iowa (4-5) traveled to Washington State last weekend, going 2-1 in the tournament with sweeps of Gonzaga and Long Beach State. Northern Iowa was 9-13 overall in spring 2021 with an 8-8 mark in Missouri Valley play. This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the Raiders and the Panthers, with the last match back in 2007. The teams first meeting was at the 1993 National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

-Marquette (6-2) is coming off two losses at home last weekend to then-No. 8 Kentucky and No. 2 Wisconsin. Marquette finished spring 2021 with a 10-4 overall record and an 4-2 mark in Big East play. The Raiders and Golden Eagles have met four times previously, with the last meeting coming back in 2002.

-UTSA (3-6) went 1-2 last weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational, sweeping Albany before falling to Houston and Texas A&M. UTSA was 7-11 overall in spring 2021 with a 5-7 mark in Conference USA play. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Raiders and the Roadrunners.

UP NEXT
Following this weekend's action, the Raiders will begin their 18-match Horizon League schedule. Wright State returns to McLin Gymnasium on Saturday, September 25 to open League play against Northern Kentucky.
