AKRON, OH – The Wright State women's soccer team used three first half goals on Thursday night to grab a 3-0 road victory at Akron in the second of three straight road contests.
The Raiders (2-1-1) got on the board in the 14th minute when Destiny Johnson beat the Akron keeper in a one-on-one situation to find the corner of the net and get the scoring started. Wright State added to the tally in the 36th minute when Olga Massombo notched her second goal of the season after sliding in from the corner and finding the back of the net.
Wright State wrapped up the three-goal advantage just before the half, as Sydni Callahan sent a shot high over the keeper's hands in the 41st minute, off an assist from Taylor Ulrich, to give the Raiders the halftime cushion.
The three-goal advantage would hold up, despite Akron outshooting the Raiders 21-8 on the night, including 13 Zips attempts over the final 45 minutes. Wright State was far more efficient, putting seven of its eight shots on frame, while Akron only saw seven of its 21 attempts on frame.
Johnson finished with a pair of shot attempts, both on goal, to pace the Raider offense, while Jessika Seward recorded six saves on the other end for Wright State in goal.
Wright State wraps up its season-long road trip on Sunday afternoon with a visit to UT Martin. The Raiders and Skyhawks are set for a 2 p.m. ET start from Tennessee.
