Raiders conclude action at Penguin Classic

STRUTHERS, OH – The Wright State bowling team wrapped up action at the MOTIV Penguin Classic with three traditional matches and one final Baker game on Sunday, as the Raiders ended their first NCAA competition in program history with an 11th place finish out of 14 schools.

The Raiders were defeated in each of their head-to-head matches on the day, falling to Mercyhurst (954-857), Valparaiso (883-835) and Morgan State (928-829). The team's collective average for the eight head-to-head games for the tournament was 936.7 and the five Baker games average was 175.4.

The top Raider bowler was freshman Natalie Hanson, who finished with an average of 177.57 for the seven games, while sophomore Makenzie Gossett turned in a similar average of 175.29 in her seven matches.

"The team bowled much better today," head coach Jeff Fleck said. "We were close all three games and then won our best 4-out-of-7 final matches. Everyone worked hard and learned a lot. The future is bright."

Wright State is back in action to close out the month of October, competing in the Valpo Bowling Classic October 28-30 in northwest Indiana just outside of metro Chicago.
