Raiders clinch postseason berth with 2-1 win at NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — The Wright State women's soccer program clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship with a 2-1 comeback victory over Northern Kentucky on Wednesday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.
The Raiders concluded their regular season with an 8-6-3 overall record and a 5-2-3 mark against Horizon League competition. Meanwhile, the Norse fell to 2-11-2 on the season and 2-7-1 in the HL.
Northern Kentucky got off to a hot start, as Taylor Abbott found the back of the net just 30 seconds into the conference finale. However, the Raiders answered back with an equalizer by Kaylin Helinski in the 30th minute. The goal was Helinski's third of the year and her first since early September against Kentucky.
WSU's Alainna Hoehnke broke the tie in the 56th minute with her first goal of the season, resulting in a 2-1 lead for the Raiders.
Goalkeeper Jessika Seward preserved Wright State's advantage with three saves in the second half, including two in the final 10 minutes of action. She finished the game with four saves.
Lauren Borchert paced the Raiders offensively with three shots, all on goal. Helinski registered three shots, while Elise Canter added two shots on goal.
WSU will host No. 5 Youngstown State on Sunday, October 30, in the tournament quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+ in the postseason contest.
The winner between the two schools will face a semifinal matchup against top-seed Milwaukee or No. 2 seed Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, November 3, in Milwaukee, Wisc.
