DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team remained unbeaten in Horizon League play as the Raiders swept Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon for their 19th consecutive victory. The win also secured the Horizon League regular season title for the Raiders, who will host the Horizon League Championship inside McLin Gymnasium November 18-20.
The Raiders end the regular season with a pair of road matches next weekend at Robert Morris and Youngstown State before returning home for the tournament hosting duties.
Wright State (24-3, 16-0 Horizon) finished the afternoon hitting .337 as a group while holding Purdue Fort Wayne (8-19, 4-12 Horizon) to just a .067 team attack percentage.
Taylor Bransfield and Sam Ott each finished with 11 kills to pace the Raiders as seven different players recorded a kill, while Bransfield and Aaliyah Byers each tallied three blocks. Katie Meyer finished with the only double-double of the match, passing out all 39 Raider kills while adding 10 digs. Jenna Story finished with a match-best 15 digs and Martin added 11 digs for Wright State as well.
SET ONE
Purdue Fort Wayne jumped out with four of the first five points before the Raiders responded with the next seven points to take control of the set. An 8-2 run pushed Wright State to a 20-9 advantage as the Raiders closed the set moments later with three of the final four points thanks to kills from Bransfield and Martin.
SET TWO
Back-and-forth throughout the set, neither side was able to put together a long run to gain separation. After a Purdue Fort Wayne kill pulled them to within three at 16-13, the Raiders scored nine of the final 13 points to close the set on a high note behind multiple kills form Martin and Ott, along with kills from Bransfield and Byers.
SET THREE
Wright State tallied six of the first eight points and nine of the first 13 overall to gain control and never looked back. The Raiders added a 7-1 run thanks to kills from Byers, Martin, Ott, Megan Alders and Seiler Hruska and then ended the night with four of the final five points behind a pair of kills from Bransfield and the final kill of the night from Hruska.
