Raiders head to northeast Ohio for weekend action

DAYTON – The Wright State bowling team heads to northeast Ohio for action at the MOTIV Penguin Classic. The three-day tournament at Holiday Bowl in Struthers, Ohio, will begin on Friday at 9:35 a.m., and the championship will be decided on Sunday.

Teams will bowl five Baker matches on Friday with each head-to-head match consisting of five games. Saturday will feature five traditional matches, with the final match on Sunday being a best-of-seven Baker match.

The Raiders will be represented Abby Derham, Alex Drsek, Makenzie Gossett, Natalie Hanson, Rylie Jeanneret, Mia Sayles, Jasmine Schulze and Alina Stebbins in the 13-team tournament.

Competing teams joining the Raiders include tournament host No. 6 Youngstown State, along with fellow ranked teams No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 11 Duquesne, No. 16 Mercyhurst, No.19 Central Missouri, No. 25 Morgan State. Lewis, Niagara and Saint Francis are all receiving vote, while Bryant and Valparaiso are also in the field.

Wright State opened its 2023-24 campaign last Saturday with a strong showing in the Ohio Bowling Conference's Event 1, with the Raiders taking home first and second place team finishes in the event. Wright State's 'Green' squad finished second in their division out of 18 teams, tallying 6,461 total pins between five five-person team games and 12 Baker games, finishing only behind Muskingum in the deep field. The Raider 'Gold' group won their five-team division, finishing with a 4,737 pinfall between their team and Baker games, nearly 100 pins more than second-place Walsh in their bracket.
