
Goecke, Mathiesen set for NCAA Regional

BATH, MI – Wright State golfers Tyler Goecke and Mikkel Mathiesen are set to compete in their second straight NCAA Regionals when they tee off in Bath, Michigan at Eagle Eye Golf Club Monday through Wednesday.

Action gets underway at 8 a.m. on Monday morning with 18 holes, with Mathiesen teeing off at 10:12 a.m. and Goecke following a group later at 10:23 a.m., both starting on the first hole. The tournament field will play the second round on Tuesday and the final round on Wednesday.

Goecke captured the 2023 Horizon League Championship individual title at the end of April, his second individual victory of the season, joining his win at the Xavier Invitational, while he added four second place finishes and finished inside the top 10 in 10 of 11 tournaments spanning the fall and spring slates. Mathiesen had three individual wins this season (Earl Yestingmeier Invitational, Sea Palms Invitational, Wright State Invitational) and added four other top 10 finishes to his season resume.

The pair are Nos. 1 and 2 in the Wright State career scoring average leaderboard, with Goecke entering the Regional with a 71.29 career scoring average and Mathiesen just behind with a 71.49 career average. Both players have logged 105 total rounds in their Raider careers entering the Regional. Goecke and Mathiesen have combined for five individual titles this season (Mathiesen three - Earl Yestingmeier Invitational, Sea Palms Invitational, Wright State Invitational // Goecke two - Xavier Invitational, Horizon League Championship).

The pair are just the second and third Raider golfers to earn an appearance in the NCAA Championship as an individual, joining former Wright State standout Ryan Wenzler, who went to the 2016 NCAA Regional after winning the Horizon League's individual title. Goecke and Mathiesen have captured the last two Horizon League Championship individual titles, making them two of the eight players in Wright State history to have won the individual title.
