
Gongora and Patrick earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team honors

DAYTON — Sebastian Gongora and Andrew Patrick picked up 2023 East-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team honors, announced on Tuesday. The teams were voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process was led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
As First Team All-Region selections, Gongora and Patrick will be eligible for ABCA/Rawling All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 16, prior to the start of the 2023 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. All divisions will announce the ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year on Monday, June 26.
Gongora, the 2023 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, collected All-Region accolades for the first time in his career at Wright State. The 6-foot-5 lefty compiled a 10-1 record with a 3.17 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 93.2 innings over 16 starts during the 2023 season. In single-season school history, he finished tied for third in wins and tied for ninth in strikeouts. Gongora went a perfect 9-0 with a 2.94 ERA and 69 strikeouts over 11 starts (70.1 IP) against conference opponents.Â
The Dayton, Ohio native led the Horizon League in victories, ERA, innings pitched, strikeouts, fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.59), and opposing batting average (.227). He allowed four or fewer earned runs allowed in five-plus innings in 13 of his 16 starts.
Patrick collected All-Region accolades for the first time in his collegiate career after slashing .326/.433/.703 with 21 doubles, four triples, 20 homers, 59 RBI, 72 runs, and 31 stolen bases in 61 starts. To date, he is this season's lone NCAA Division I player with 20-plus doubles, 20-plus homers, and 30-plus stolen bases. The Hilliard, Ohio native led the conference in doubles (T-1st), home runs, runs, stolen bases, total bases (166), three-plus hit games (12), and multi-homer games (T-1st, 4) while ranking second in hits (77), triples, slugging percentage, and OPS (1.136).Â
Wright State's primary leadoff hitter belted his 17th home run of the year in WSU's 8-6 victory over Milwaukee (5/13), which broke the single-season school record. He also set a program record in total bases while finishing fourth in runs, sixth in stolen bases, and seventh in doubles and slugging in the yearly record book.Â
The Raiders concluded the season with a 39-23 record this spring and won their sixth Horizon League Championship in the last eight seasons, advancing to the Terre Haute Regional of the NCAA Championship.
