CHARLESTON, IL – Jacob Adams' second half goal proved to be the equalizer on Tuesday night as the Wright State men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Eastern Illinois.
Wright State (0-2-3) now returns home for its next two contests, and three of the next four matches overall, beginning on Saturday night when the Raiders step back into Horizon League play with a meeting against Milwaukee. First touch is set for 5 p.m. from Alumni Field.
On Tuesday, the Raiders surrendered a first half goal to Sam Eccles in the 30th minute and Eastern Illinois (1-2-2) led at the break. Wright State's pressure mounted in the second 45 minutes, highlighted by Adam's tally in the 58th minute.
After a Raider throw in near midfield,
Felix Ezekwuka carried the ball all the way into the box, where he was surrounded by three Eastern Illinois defenders and found Adams to his left. From there, Adams pivoted as he made a quick move to gain separation and delivered a strike off his left foot and tucked it just inside the left post to knot the score.
Adams goal was the first of his collegiate career between his two seasons at Marshall and his year-plus as a Raider.
Wright State finished the night with a 16-9 shot advantage, with 11 attempts coming in the second half as the pressure rose.
Reece Allbaugh delivered a match-high five shot attempts as Adams and
Conner Osterholt each had three shots.
Alessandro Malterer turned in six saves, including four in the first half, in his first start between the pipes for the Raiders.
Eccles' goal for Eastern Illinois was one of his team-best four shot attempts, while keeper Whelan Joseph finished with five saves and allowed the lone goal to Adams.
