Volleyball returns home to welcome Green Bay

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team returns home to McLin Gymnasium this weekend to welcome Green Bay to town for a pair of Horizon League contests to begin the second half of the HL schedule. Friday night's match is set for a 6 p.m. start before a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon. Both matches are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State split a pair of five-set road contests at Milwaukee last weekend, dropping the Friday match before rallying for a Saturday victory. Taylor Bransfield finished with 26 kills over the weekend to lead four Raiders with 20-plus kills, while Lauren Yacobucci recorded a pair of 50-plus assist games as she averaged 10.70 assists per set. Defensively, five Raiders totalled double-digit digs, paced by Jenny Wessling with 51 total digs (5.10 digs per set).
NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State enters the weekend with a  14.42 kills per set average, currently No. 6 nationally, while the Raiders' 13.56 assists per set average is No. 3 in the country, aided in large part to Lauren Yacobucci's 11.75 assist per set average, which is No. 1 in the country. Yacobucci's 846 total assists are No. 4 nationally, while Jenny Wessling has a 4.79 digs per set average, currently No. 30 in the country.
THAT'S. . .DIFFERENT
Wright State played five sets in back-to-back matches at Milwaukee Oct. 18 and 19, the first time the Raiders have played back-to-back five setters since Oct. 22 and Oct. 28, 2022 against Cleveland State and Green Bay. The Raiders currently have four five-set matches to date this season after finishing 2023 with four five-set matches for the entire campaign.

In the latest RPI release on Oct. 20, Wright State was ranked No. 41 nationally, by far the best in the Horizon League. Cleveland State (No. 93) and Milwaukee (No. 99) the only other HL teams inside the Top 100.

- Green Bay is 9-12 overall with a 6-3 Horizon League mark, coming off a pair of home four-set wins over Oakland last weekend. Green Bay has responded in HL action after opening the year 3-9 in non-conference action and are currently 3-4 in true road contests (2-2 in HL road contests).

With four weeks remaining in the regular season, Wright State currently sits atop the Horizon League standings with an 8-1 mark in HL play, one match ahead of second-place Milwaukee (7-2) and two matches ahead of third-place Green Bay (6-3), with Green Bay coming into McLin this weekend. In addition to Green Bay, also on the Raiders' closing schedule: NKU (t4th, 5-4), RMU (t7th, 3-6), Purdue Fort Wayne (t4th, 5-4) and Oakland (9th, 2-7).
