Volleyball set for quick trip south

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team is set for a quick trip south to take on Northern Kentucky Tuesday night in Horizon League action. Tuesday's match is set for a 6 p.m. start and is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State grabbed a pair of home wins over visiting Green Bay, sweeping the Friday matchup before a four-set Saturday win. Offensively, three Raiders each had 20-plus kills - Reilly Zegunis (29), Sam Ott (25) and Mya Ayro (22) - while Lauren Yacobucci passed out 106 assists over the seven sets (15.14 assists/set average). Defensively, Jenny Wessling collected 46 digs (6.57 digs/set) to pace the back line as four other Raiders all notched 20-plus digs for the weekend.Â
LAUREN GRABS ANOTHER HL HONOR
Lauren Yacobucci was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Oct. 28 after a pair of double-doubles and a 15.14 assists per set average over the weekend. She opened her weekend with 49 assists in three sets on Friday, adding 13 digs for her seventh double-double of the season before turning in a 57-assist, 16-dig effort in Saturday's four set win for her eighth double-double.Â
NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State enters the week with a  13.92 assists per set average, tops in the country, while the Raiders' 14.74 kills per set average is No. 2 in the country. Lauren Yacobucci's 12.05 assist per set average is No. 1 in the country while her 952 total assists are No. 3 nationally. Jenny Wessling has a 4.95 digs per set average, currently No. 17 in the country.

In the latest RPI release on Oct. 28, Wright State was ranked No. 39 nationally, by far the best in the Horizon League. Milwaukee (No. 99) and Cleveland State (No. 100) the only other HL teams inside the Top 100.

- Northern Kentucky is 9-13 overall with a 5-6 Horizon League mark, currently on a three-match losing streak. NKU is 6-3 at home overall, bettering that mark to 3-1 currently in Horizon League action, but is a combined 3-10 in road and neutral contests.

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Wright State currently sits atop the Horizon League standings with  10-1 mark in HL play, one match ahead of second-place Milwaukee (9-2) and three matches ahead of third-place Cleveland State & Purdue Fort Wayne (each 7-4). After NKU (5-6) on Tuesday, the Raiders' closing schedule features RMU (8th, 3-8), Purdue Fort Wayne (t3rd, 7-4) and Oakland (9th, 3-8).
