INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON — Wright State guard Alex Huibregtse has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.
Huibregtse turned in a trio of double-digit scoring games to open the season, including a 26-point performance on Saturday afternoon to cap the week as the Raiders opened 2-1 on the season. Huibregtse began the year with a 16-point effort at No. 23 Kentucky on Monday night before he notched 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting Wednesday in the home opener against Ohio Christian. He ended the week with 26 points in Saturday's road win at Miami (OH), pouring in 18 of his 26 points in the second half, as he finished 11-of-16 from the floor. After connecting on two three-pointers Monday at Kentucky, Huibregtse went 4-of-6 from deep against both Ohio Christian and Miami to finish the week with a 53 percent shooting mark from deep. He was 25-of-39 from the floor overall for a 64 percent overall shooting mark, adding a total of 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals to his final stat line for the week.
Huibregtse has now recorded 12 straight games in double figures scoring dating back to the end of last season, while he ended the week averaging 21.3 points to go along with his 64 percent overall shooting percentage and 53 percent mark from deep. His two 20-plus point performances last week give him nine 20-plus point games in his career, while his 26 points on Saturday are the second-most he's scored in a game behind his 32-point performance last January at Cleveland State.
Wright State stays on the road for a Wednesday matchup at Toledo before returning to the Nutter Center for a Saturday night contest against Central State. Both games are set for 7 p.m. starts, and fans can follow the action on ESPN+, via live stats or by tuning in to the home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM.
