Volleyball closes regular season at Oakland this weekend

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team closes out the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches at Oakland, beginning with a 6 p.m. match on Friday night before a 2 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon. Both matches are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State grabbed a pair of wins last week over Purdue Fort Wayne to close out the regular season home schedule. Reilly Zegunis (25) and Sam Ott (22) each had 20-plus kills over the seven sets, while Lauren Yacobucci passed out 84 assists for a 12.00 assists per set average. Defensively, Jenny Wessling (25), Ott (24) and Yacobucci (21) all had 20-plus digs, while Haley Robinson collected nine blocks and Zegunis had seven of her own.

Wright State enters the weekend with a 13.87 assists per set average, No. 2 in the country, while the Raiders' 14.68 kills per set average is also No. 2 in the country. Lauren Yacobucci's 12.00 assist per set average is No. 1 in the country while her 1,140 total assists are No. 2 nationally. Jenny Wessling has a 4.87 digs per set average, currently No. 27 in the country.
KNOW THE FOE
- Oakland is 7-21 overall with a 3-13 Horizon League mark, taking a five-match losing streak into the weekend. The Golden Grizzlies are 4-5 at home and 2-11 in true road matches, adding a 1-5 mark in neutral contests.
STANDING TALL
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, Wright State needs one victory to clinch its third-straight Horizon League regular season title and fifth regular season title in the last six years overall. Milwaukee is in second-place with a 14-2 HL mark, followed by Cleveland State (10-6) and Purdue Fort Wayne (8-8), who have also clinched a spot in the tournament.
