Raiders See Career Highs in Season Opener at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin – The Wright State women's basketball team opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin on Tuesday night, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final.
Wright State (0-1) will play again on Sunday, November 10 at Evansville for an 12 p.m. ET tipoff. Fans can keep up with the action online through ESPN+ livestreaming and live stats.
The Raiders had 12 players touch the court with four making their collegiate debut – Anna Azzara, Florrie Cotterill, Ellie Magestro-Kennedy, and Rylee Sagester; four players – Olivia Brown, Lexi Bugajski, Chloe Chard Peloquin, and Amaya Staton – made their Wright State debut.
As a team Wright State shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the floor, shooting 25 percent for three. Miller accounted for half of the Raider's threes, going three-for-five beyond the arc. The Raiders finished 18-of-29 on the line, highlighted by a second quarter 9-of-15 mark. Wisconsin (1-0) ended the night shooting 45.6 percent from the floor, going 10-of-27 for three, and 61.9 percent on the line.
Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
Lauren Scott added nine points for the Raiders, going three-of-nine from the floor, adding a three with just three minutes left in the first half and going two-of-three on the line. Staton recorded eight points and five rebounds in the Raider debut, followed by Macie Taylor with four points and five rebounds. Magestro-Kennedy had four points and one rebound, and Brown and Bugajski two points each while Brown added four rebounds.
After entering the second quarter down by ten, the Raiders fought, lowering the Badger advantage to one with a 9-0 run. The run began as Miller went to the line with 4:42 left in the half, followed by Chard Peloquin with a layup at the four-minute mark. With the Raiders in the bonus, Chard Peloquin drew a foul, going to the line to lower Wisconsin's lead to six, 31-25. Miller continued, making a second chance point from outside the paint. With three minutes in the half, Scott had a jumper from outside the three-point circle, bringing the score to 31-30.
Three Badgers finished with double-digit points, led by Serah Williams's double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds.
