Women’s Basketball Set to Travel to Evansville Sunday

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will stay on the road as they travel to Indiana for a Sunday matchup at Evansville. The non-conference matchup is set for a noon tipoff. Fans can stream the game on ESPN+ or keep up with the action through live stats.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State women's basketball team opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin on Tuesday night, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. As a team Wright State shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the floor, shooting 25 percent for three. Miller accounted for half of the Raider's threes, going three-for-five beyond the arc. The Raiders finished 18-of-29 on the line, highlighted by a second quarter 9-of-15 mark. Wisconsin (1-0) ended the night shooting 45.6 percent from the floor, going 10-of-27 for three, and 61.9 percent on the line.
Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.

Evansville finished last season 4-28 overall and 2-18 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Purple Aces are currently 0-1 on the season, falling to IU Indy 101-76 on Tuesday night. Sophomore forward Maggie Hartwig led the team with 21 points. Joined in the double-digit points were Julia Palomo, Camryn Runner, and Kylee Norkus.
HISTORY VS. EVANSVILLE
The Purple Aces hold a close 5-4 all-time series record over Wright State, with meetings dating back to the 1982-83 season. The two last faced each other in 2008, where Evansville won 63-59.

The Raiders welcomed nine signees, six transfers and three freshmen, for the 2024-25 season. Olivia Brown (Akron), Lexi Bugajski (App State), Chloe Chard-Peloquin (Canisius), Makenzie Drout (App State), Abbie Riddle (Bowling Green), and Amaya Staton (Merrimack College/Cleveland State) will be coming to Wright State as transfers. Anna Azzara, Florrie Cotterill, and Elle Bruschuk will enter the season as freshmen.
PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders finished sixth in the 2024 Horizon League preseason poll with 58 points, which the league's 11 head coaches voted on. Cleveland State (117 points) was selected to win the conference after receiving all seven first-place votes, closely followed by Green Bay (114 points) with four first-place votes.

The Raiders ended their 2023-24 campaign ranked No. 38 nationally with its 7.9 three-pointers made per game average. Wright State connected on double digit three-pointers as a group in 10 contests to date. The Raiders connected on a season-best 14 triples at Robert Morris (Dec. 31) and hit 12 threes against Milwaukee (Jan. 5), West Virginia (Dec. 18) and Eastern Illinois (Dec. 9), with 11 triples against Cleveland State (Feb. 7) and Slippery Rock (Nov. 20).
BASKETBALL RUNS IN THE FAMILY
Sophomore guard Lauren Scott is the granddaughter of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coach Gary Williams, who led the Maryland men's basketball program to its first-ever NCAA Tournament Championship in 2002. He also served as head coach for American (1978- 82), Boston College (1982-86), and Ohio State (1986-89). Currently, he is Maryland's Senior Managing Director for Alumni Relations and Athletic Development.
NONCONFERENCE TESTS
Wright State's non-conference schedule features ten matchups, opening against Wisconsin (November 5), staying on the road to play the University of Evansville (November 10). return for the 2024-25 home opener, hosting Indiana State on November 12. WSU will stay home to host Tennessee State before their last November road match at Bellarmine on November 21. The Raiders will host their last nonconference matches on November 24 and November 26, taking on Ohio and Findlay, respectively. WSU will close its non-conference slate with games against Grand Canyon (December 18), Georgia Southern (December 19), and Florida Atlantic (December 21) at the GCU Classic.
HORIZON LEAGUE SLATE
Each Horizon League team will play a 20-game double round-robin schedule. Wright State's conference schedule gets underway at Detroit Mercy on December 4 and concludes in the Nutter Center on March 1 versus Robert Morris.
RAIDER LEADERSHIP
Wright State is set for its fourth season under the direction of head coach Kari Hoffman, who was introduced as the eighth head coach in program history in May 2021. Hoffman led the team to have large improvements in the 2023-24 season, putting up an 18-15 overall record, going 11-9 in conference play, a large turnaround from the previous year's 6-14 league record. She guided the Raiders to a Horizon League Championship semifinals appearance, as graduate guard Alexis Hutchinson was named to the Horizon League First Team. In her second year at WSU, Hoffman guided the Raiders to a four-win improvement, a Horizon League Championship quarterfinals appearance, and a 6-5 record over the program's last 11 games. Hoffman joined the Raiders after serving as the head coach at nearby Cedarville University for five seasons, where she won 106 games, led the Yellow Jackets to three regular season conference titles, and was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2021. Hoffman also earned NCCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year honors in 2019 and 2020. In addition to Hoffman, assistant coaches John Leonzo, Megan Leuzinger, and Patrick Bain enter their third season at Wright State. Director of Operations Emily Chapman joined the coaching staff in August 2023.
