Volleyball drops Friday night five-set battle

MUNCIE, IN – In a matchup of two mid-major powers, the Wright State volleyball team fell in five sets on Friday night to Ball State despite a trio of Raiders finishing with double-digit kills.

Wright State (7-3) wraps up the weekend on Saturday with its final non-conference test of the season, taking on Butler in Indianapolis in a 3 p.m. match. Saturday's contest is expected to be streamed on Butler's YouTube page.

The Raiders and Ball State (7-4) have seven combined trips to the NCAA tournament in the last five seasons, and the teams were neck and neck all night long, alternating set wins throughout the evening. The Raiders took sets two and four (25-23 and 25-14) while Ball State took sets one, three (26-24 and 25-20) before winning the deciding fifth set 15-8.

Sam Ott led Wright State with her fourth double-double of the year, finishing the night with 16 kills and 10 digs, adding an ace and a block, while Mya Ayro recorded 15 kills of her own – her fifth match to date with 15-plus kills – and turned away three blocks. Reilly Zegunis was the third Raider with double digit kills, notching 11, while she filled her stat line with seven blocks, three digs, two aces and an assist. Taylor Bransfield added nine kills of her own.

Lauren Yacobucci passed out 51 of the Raiders' 57 assists and Jenny Wessling collected 25 digs, both match highs, while Jenny Morey added 14 digs of her own while playing just up the road from her hometown of Yorktown, Indiana. Elena Dubuc chipped in a career-best four blocks on Friday after entering the night with 19 total blocks in her two-plus seasons.
