DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team had a late rally to tie 3-3 at Milwaukee Saturday afternoon. The three Raider goals came in the final 15 minutes as Cole Werthmuller sunk the first goal for WSU, followed by Brayden Tester with back-to-back goals in the final minutes.
Â
Wright State (3-3-2, 1-0-1 HL) outshot Milwaukee (2-1-3, 0-1-1 HL) 22-13, landing ten on target to the Panther's five. The Raiders recorded six corner kicks to MKE's five. Werthmuller led the Raiders with five shots, followed by Edwin Espinal-Elvir with four, and Tester with three shots. Goalkeeper Joel Shaw logged a full 90 minutes of play, recording one save.
Â
Joining Shaw in the complete game were Brock Pickett and Werthmuller. Conner Osterholt followed with 81 minutes, closely trailed by Zakaria Amro, Uleto Fuentes, and Roman Kedgley with 79 minutes.
Â
The Raiders got off to a slow start, having only five shots in the first half compared to MKE's seven. The Panthers held a 2-0 advantage after the first 45 minutes, first sinking one in the 23rd minute, and another in the 37th minute.
Â
Milwaukee added another to the board just five minutes into the second half. The Raiders responded, adding five shots within five minutes of each other to begin their second-half rally. Werthmuller was the first Raider to score as he received a pass from Tester, sinking it with a header from just outside of the box.
Â
Tester, who had entered the game less than ten minutes prior, scored his first collegiate goal in the 84th minute, volleying a long ball from Pickett over the charging Panther goalkeeper. Just 28 seconds later, Tester added the game-tying goal with a skillful shot from the wing. Henry Hutchinson set up the play with a well-placed pass, allowing Tester to blast the ball past the keeper, tucking it just inside the post.
Â
The Raiders will play again on Tuesday, traveling for a 7 p.m. nonconference match at Butler. Fans can keep up with the action through the FloSports livestream or live stats.
