Goting has Collegiate First Goal in Win at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Wright State men's soccer team defeated Butler 3-2 on Tuesday night. The three Raider goals came from Gabe Gotting, Conner Osterholt, and Cole Werthmuller.
Wright State (4-3-2) ended the night with 12 shots, seven on target, to Butler's (3-4-2) 14 shots, four on target. The Raiders recorded two saves and two corner kicks to Butler's four saves and four corner kicks.
Leading Wright State was Edwin Espinal-Elvir with four shots, two on goal, followed by Werthmuller with two shots, both on goal. Osterholt and Gotting each added two shots, while Roman Kedgley and Brayden Tester had one each. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Normandeau made his collegiate debut, logging all 90 minutes of play and tallying two saves.
Logging 90 minutes alongside Normandeau were Nate Erre and Gotting. Wright State had 21 players touch the field, with four freshmen recording their first collegiate start.
WSU added six shots in the first half, as Espinal-Elvir recorded the first three in the eighth, 16th, and 22nd minutes. Osterholt added a shot in the 31st minute before finding the back on the net in the 40th. Erre and Brock Pickett were on the assist. Werthmuller took the final shot on the half in the 43rd minute.
Staying consistent to the first 45, the Raiders recorded six shots in the second half, first by Kedgley in the 52nd minute, and later by Brayden Tester in the 54th minute. Gotting's collegiate first came as he further secured the Raider's win with an unassisted goal in the 57th minute. The Bulldogs responded with their first goal in the 58th minute. Just 40 seconds later, Gotting added his second shot of the night. Brian Burkett drew a foul in the 80th minute, allowing Werthmuller to score on a penalty kick, raising WSU's advantage back to two. Butler fought, adding another goal in the 85th minute. Espinal-Elvir added Wright State's final shot in the 86th minute, ending the night with a 3-2 win.
The Raiders will be back on Alumni Field on Saturday, September 28 at 7 p.m., hosting Purdue Fort Wayne. Fans are encouraged to watch the game in-person with free admission. ESPN+ livestream and live stats will be provided.
