Raiders ready to open Horizon League play this weekend

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team begins its Horizon League title defense this weekend as the Raiders travel to take on IU Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday to open HL action. Both matches are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State split a pair of road contests to wrap up non-conference action, falling to Ball State on Friday night in five sets before a Saturday sweep at Butler. Sam Ott led the offensive attack with 26 kills (3.25 kills/set) and Mya Ayro added 24 kills (3.00 kills/set). Lauren Yacobucci passed out 89 assists (10.75 assists/set) and Jenny Wessling led the backline with 50 digs (6.25 digs/set).
STARTING THE HORIZON
Wright has won its Horizon League-opening match in four of the last five seasons, dating back to 2019, with the lone blemish a five-set loss against Northern Kentucky to begin the 2021 HL slate. Over the same five year stretch, the Raiders have a pair of undefeated Horizon League seasons (Spring 2021, Fall 2022).
RECENT HISTORY
Wright State has won 12 straight meetings against IU Indianapolis dating back to the 2018 season, with nine of those matches resulting in three-set wins. The Raiders tallied a pair of three set sweeps last season and lead the all-time series 16-8.
KNOW THE FOE
- IU Indy is 6-7 to date and has won three of its last four contests. The Jags are 3-2 at home so far this season, splitting their first four matches - all at home - before a five-set home win over Indiana State Sept. 18.

Yacobucci's 442 total assists ar No. 26 nationally, while Jenny Wessling has a 4.82 digs per set average, currently No. 21 in the country.
