Norris' career-high 21 points leads Raiders over NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Keaton Norris turned in a career- and game-high 21 points to lead four Raiders in double figures as the Wright State men's basketball team went on the road and grabbed a 78-70 Horizon League victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

Wright State (10-10, 4-5 HL) was in control for almost all of the contest that saw just three lead changes and two tied scores. The Raiders led for over 36 minutes and never trailed in the second half, closing the afternoon with the final five points after Northern Kentucky (9-11, 4-5 HL) cut the margin to three with 64 seconds to play.

Wright State now returns home to the Nutter Center for a pair of games next week, hosting Milwaukee on Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. tipoff before welcoming Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. start.

The Raiders led by seven at the half and then led by 11 three different times in the second stanza, the last coming on a Norris jumper in the paint with just under six minutes to play, before Northern Kentucky made their push. The hosts rallied with a 10-2 run over 90 seconds to pull within three at 65-62 with four minutes remaining to set up a back-and-forth finish that saw the Raider margin at two points with 1:47 to play.

Brandon Noel responded the next possession to extend the Wright State lead with an old fashioned three-point play. Moments later with the shot clock expiring, Noel went up through traffic to pull down the offensive rebound before going back up with a basket to give the Raiders a five-point lead with 38 seconds to play to effectively seal the win.

Norris finished the career night with an 8-of-11 shooting mark, connecting on a trio of three-pointers – all in the first half – and hitting his only two free throws of the contest with 23 seconds remaining. He added five assists and three rebounds over 35 minutes of action with zero turnovers.

Jack Doumbia turned in 15 points and eight rebounds while Brandon Noel tallied 10 of his 12 points in the second half and added six rebounds. Alex Huibregtse finished with 11 points as the final double-digit Raider, while Michael Imariagbe and Andrea Holden combined for 17 rebounds. Imariagbe chipped in eight points and eight rebounds in his return to the lineup, with Holden adding five points with nine rebounds in 11 minutes. Andrew Welage connected on a pair of three-pointers for six points off the bench as the final Raider in the scoring column.

Wright State finished the afternoon shooting 48 percent overall (30-of-63) while connecting on seven three-pointers (7-18, 39 percent). The Raiders were 11-of-16 (69 percent) at the free throw line, with 11 of those attempts in the second half. Northern Kentucky was 40 percent overall (21-of-53) while going 6-of-15 (40 percent) from deep and finishing at 69 percent at the line (22-of-32).

Northern Kentucky had four players finish in double figures in the loss, with Josh Dilling and Trey Robinson each turning in 17 points.
