DAYTON – A pair of Raiders led the way with double-digit kills, including a match-best by Mya Ayro, but the Wright State volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon in Horizon League action.
Â
Wright State (13-7, 7-2 Horizon) finished the afternoon hitting just .142 as a group with 27 attacking errors while Milwaukee (4-18, 4-5 Horizon) used a .295 team hitting mark in the opening set to gain momentum on the way to a .244 overall hitting percentage in the win. The visitors took the opening set 25-22 before a 27-25 second set and a 25-20 third set victory.
Â
The Raiders now get set for an extended road trip that will see them on the road in each of the next three weekends, beginning with the long trip to Green Bay next weekend. Wright State's lone reprieve from the road stretch will come on October 28 with a quick midweek matchup against Northern Kentucky before hitting the road again at Robert Morris and Purdue Fort Wayne.
Â
On Saturday, Ayro had a match-best 18 kills as Reilly Zegunis added 15 kills of her own as the pair combined for 33 of the 45 Wright State kills. Katie Sowko was held to just five kills, her lowest output in a month, but did add 11 digs, which was tied for the team-high along with Taygan Corstange. Lauren Yacobucci passed out 41 of the 45 Raider assists, just missing a double-double with nine digs.
Â
Josie Noble (13) and Natalie Schmitz (12) each had double digit kills for Milwaukee, while Milicia Tomic and Josie Johnson combined for 36 assists in the win.
