STRUTHERS, OH – The No. 20 Wright State bowling team tallied three bracket victories on Sunday's final day of action at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic to finish seventh in the loaded, 18-team field that featured many of the national powerhouses.
Wright State, who entered the final day in 10th, opened best-of-seven Baker action with a comeback 4-3 win over No. 21 Valparaiso as the Raiders won the final three matches to advance. They carried the momentum into a 4-0 sweep over No. 14 Mount St. Mary's before facing off with No. 25 Niagara. In the final matchup, Wright State jumped ahead and later held off a Niagara comeback as the Raiders took the deciding seventh game to seal the win.
Wright State tallied a total weekend pinfall of 12,929 and had a game average of 193.0. Wright State's 9-4 record for the weekend tied them with No. 1 Jacksonville State and No. 3 Vanderbilt for the fourth-best weekend record behind 11 wins for No. 6 Arkansas State and No. 4 Youngstown State and a 12-win weekend from champion No. 2 Nebraska.
Mia Sayles led the Raiders in 13th individually with a total pinfall of 1,055 and a 211.00 average, with
Alli Shattuck also inside the Top 25 with her 986 total pinfall and 197.20 average good for 25th individually.
Next up for the Raiders will be a weekend off before heading back to the Chicagoland area for the Windy City Halloween Classic, hosted by Valparaiso October 31-November 2 at River Bend Bowl in Chicago.
