Bowlers off to hot start, grab five Friday wins

CHICAGO – The No. 20 Wright State bowling team tallied a tournament-best five wins on the opening day of the Windy City Halloween Classic on Friday, going 5-0 in the first day of action to sit in second in the 14-team field.

Wright State finished with a opening day pinfall total of 4,669, just behind tournament host and current first-place squad No. 21 Valparaiso, who was 4-1 but had a 4,735 pinfall total.

Saturday's action will feature five traditional matches beginning at 9:25 a.m. CT before three best-of-seven Baker matches on Sunday.

Teams bowled five head-to-head Baker matches on Friday, with the Raiders grabbing wins over Alabama A&M (1,014-902), Carroll (906-845), Aurora (909-772), No. 21 Valparaiso (945-920) and UIndy (895-765). Saturday's traditional matches will see Wright State square off against Lewis, No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 15 McKendree, Western Illinois and Carthage.
