Whitesell Named #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State baseball's Max Whitesell has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Whitesell becomes the seventh Raider to earn a Horizon League weekly honor this season, joining Cam Allen and Gus Gregory, who swept the awards on April 22. Hunter Warren was named Batter of the Week on April 8, while JP Peltier earned the honor on March 18. Boston Smith and Garrett Peters swept the opening week's awards on February 18.

Whitesell, a senior right-hander, garnered the recognition after going 2-0 across three appearances last week. The Dayton, Ohio, native tossed 3.1 scoreless, hitless innings, striking out seven batters.

He earned the win against midweek opponent Xavier, pitching 1.1 innings with no runs, hits, or walks allowed, while striking out two. He followed by securing the win in game two against Milwaukee, tossing the final 1.1 innings and striking out four Panthers.

Whitesell and the Raidergang will stay close to home for a midweek matchup at Day Air Ballpark against Dayton on Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. WSU will then hit the road for Horizon League play, traveling to Youngstown State for a three-game series beginning Friday, May 2.
