
Raiders Stay Perfect in HL Play

CLEVELAND — Wright State continued its unbeaten start to Horizon League play Saturday afternoon, sweeping Cleveland State 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 inside Woodling Gym.
The victory improved the Raiders to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Cleveland State fell to 3-12 and 0-4. Wright State held the Vikings to a -.072 hitting percentage while finishing with 60 digs, 11 block assists, and seven service aces.
Wright State jumped out quickly in the opening set. Abbey Knight recorded the first two kills of the afternoon as the Raiders built an early advantage and never trailed on their way to a 25-14 win. WSU tallied 11 kills and hit .200 in the frame while holding Cleveland State to a -.107 percentage.
The Raiders were even more efficient in the second, committing just one attacking error and hitting .258 in a dominant 25-10 victory. Cleveland State struggled against the Raiders' defense being held to four kills and hitting -.179 in the set.
The final set was one of runs by both squads. A six-point rally by the Vikings staked the home side to a 10-5 lead. The Raiders would rally back to knot the set at 16 and again at 18-all. Wright State then completed the sweep, riding a 7-0 run off the serve of Lauren Yaccobucci and a 25-19 set win.Â
Reilly Zegunis paced the Wright State attack with seven kills and added three blocks. Mya Ayro and Katie Sowko each finished with six kills, with Sowko adding two service aces and seven digs. Knight turned in an all-around performance with six kills on 13 error-free swings for a .462 hitting percentage, 12 digs, three blocks and an ace.
Haley Robinson added four kills without an error, hitting .500, while Lauren Yacobucci directed the offense with 24 assists and two aces. Taygan Corstange anchored the Raider defense with a match-high 19 digs, Greta McKee added nine and Ella Gaona recorded two service aces. Sophia Loomis also provided a kill and block assist in third-set action. Wright State finished the afternoon with a 31-17 advantage in kills and 60-46 edge in digs while forcing Cleveland State into 25 attacking errors.
The Raiders return to the friendly confines of McLin Gym next weekend, welcoming in fellow league unbeaten Green Bay. First serve of the two-match series is set for 6 p.m. on Friday night.Â
