Raiders clinch HL Tournament home game with Thursday win

DAYTON – TJ Burch scored 23 points for the second-straight game to lead four players with double figure scoring nights as the Wright State men's basketball team secured a Horizon League tournament home game with an 85-73 home win over IU Indy on Thursday night.

Wright State (18-10, 13-4 Horizon) can clinch the Horizon League regular season title with one win in its final three games. The Raiders first chance to do so will be on Sunday in their regular season finale against Robert Morris – a nationally televised 2 p.m. contest on ESPNU. Sunday's game will also be Senior Day, with ceremonies taking place following the game.

On Thursday, the Raiders led 40-36 at the break after a back-and-forth first half and the tight contest continued into the second half. Tied at 57 with just over 11 minutes left, Wright State scored eight straight points to gain some separation and then moments later used a 15-4 run to push the margin to double figures. The Raiders tallied 20 of the final 30 points overall over the final five minutes as IU Indy (7-22, 3-15 Horizon) hit just four shots down the stretch.

Burch finished the night connecting on 5-of-14 of his shots from the floor on the way to the game-high 23 points, adding four assists and three steals, both also game bests. Michael Imariagbe turned in 19 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Dominic Pangonis added 14 points. Kellen Pickett notched his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds while adding a pair of blocks as Michael Cooper was the final Raider in double figured with 10 points.

The Raiders shot 53 percent overall (29-of-55) while connecting on just four three-pointers (4-11, 36 percent) but recording 50 points inside the paint. Wright State was 23-of-27 (85 percent) at the free throw line, including a 16-of-17 second half mark at the stripe. IU Indy shot 49 percent (29-of-59) overall while hitting just four three-pointers of its own (4-20, 20 percent), all in the second half. The visitors were 11-of-14 (79 percent) at the free throw line, but only went to the stripe twice in the second half.

Kyler D'Augustino finished with 20 points to lead three IU Indy players in double figures, while Maguire Mitchell added 13 points and Finley Woodward had 12 points for the visitors in the loss.
