Women’s soccer to host Butler in home opener Sunday evening

DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team (0-0-1) will return home to Alumni Field for its 2026 home opener on Sunday, August 16, as the Butler Bulldogs come to town. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Butler finished last season with a 5-4-8 overall record and a 2-3-5 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Junior Chloe Brecht, who received All-BIG EAST accolades in 2025 and was named to the 2026 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, will look to lead the Bulldogs.
HISTORY VS. BUTLER
Sunday will mark the 30th all-time meeting between Wright State and Butler, a series the Bulldogs lead 18-9-2 all-time. Butler came out on top of the Raiders 7-0 when the two teams last met in Indianapolis in 2022.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders opened their 2026 campaign with a scoreless draw on the road at Southern Indiana on Thursday night.
Southern Indiana came out of the gates and applied pressure to the Raiders' defense, firing off nine shots at the Wright State goalkeeper, Leigha Lauer, who recorded all three of her saves in the first 45 minutes. The shutout is Lauer's second career solo shutout, with her other coming against Chicago State a season ago.
Wright State ramped up the pressure in the second half, firing 10 of their 15 shots and attempting 10 corner kicks, but were unable to find the winning goal. Taliah Pellizzari led the Raiders in shots with four, followed closely by Kaitlyn Eyink and Ayla Washburn with three apiece.
In the box score, Wright State led Southern Indiana in possession (62-38), total shots (15-14), shots on goal (5-3), and corner kick opportunities (11-5). Eyink and Lauer played all 90 minutes for the Raiders in the season opener. Ella Boettcher, Ryleigh Deards, Chloe Dunford, Shai-Lee Glaun, and Eva Snyder all made their collegiate debuts Thursday night.

Wright State returns a pair of All-League performers from a season ago. Caitlin Burger returns for the Raiders in midfield after earning All-League First Team honors in 2025. Burger led Wright State with 12 points and five goals, while finishing second in assists with four. Kaitlyn Eyink returns for the Raiders after picking up All-League Third Team honors last season. Eyink played and started 19 games in defense for the Raiders, totaling 1486 minutes.

Wright State finished 2025 with a 7-7-5 overall record and a 4-1-5 mark in Horizon League play, making the Horizon League Championship Quarterfinal before falling to Green Bay 3-1.
