Men’s Soccer Looks to Stay Hot Against Green Bay Saturday

DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-0 HL) returns home Saturday, September 12, to host Green Bay at Alumni Field. First touch is slated for 4 p.m.

Green Bay enters Saturday at 2-4-1 on the season, and 1-0 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix are riding a two-game win streak, defeating Western Illinois 2-1 at home last Saturday and defeating Northern Kentucky 3-1 in the Horizon League opener Wednesday night.
HISTORY VS. GREEN BAY
Saturday will mark the 40th all-time meeting between Wright State and Green Bay, a series the Raiders trail 21-16-2. Wright State came up short against Green Bay on the road a season ago, falling 1-0.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders opened Horizon League play with a 3-2 victory on the road at Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon.
The Raiders jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute when Brian Burkett converted a penalty kick after Wright State was awarded a foul in the box. The goal was Burkett's second of the season.
Wright State doubled its advantage in the 26th minute. Tedrick Neptune played a pass from midfield to Cairo Duarte, who struck from distance for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 Raider lead.
Milwaukee responded after halftime, cutting the deficit to one in the 49th minute on a goal by Jack Bretzmann before pulling even in the 54th minute when Jack Wagner headed home a corner kick.
The Raiders found the match winner in the 77th minute. Keiji Nakazawa delivered a corner kick into the box that found Daniel Panait, who headed the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and a 3-2 Wright State lead.
Nakazawa paced the Raider attack with five shots and added an assist, while Duarte recorded a team-high three shots on goal. Alex Normandeau made five saves and played all 90 minutes in goal to earn the victory.
In the box score, Wright State and Milwaukee each recorded 23 shots, but the Raiders held advantages in shots on goal (9-7) and corner kick opportunities (6-4).
LAST SEASON REWIND
Wright State finished 2025 with a 2-13-1 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Horizon League play. Three Raiders earned Horizon League All-League honors in 2025, with Henry Hutchinson and Roman Kedgley being named to the All-League Third Team, while Alessandro Malterer was named a finalist for the Sportsmanship award.
