Raiders Rally Past High Point in Four Sets

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Wright State volleyball team opened its weekend Friday afternoon, defeating High Point in four sets to open play at the Panther Challenge.

Wright State (4-3) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for game two of the Panther Challenge, taking on Jacksonville. First serve is set for 2 p.m., and fans can follow the action on ESPN+.

After taking a tightly contested opening set 25-23, Wright State dropped the second set 25-17 before responding with a strong third-set performance. The Raiders hit .326 in the third frame and fought off a late High Point rally to secure a 26-24 victory. Wright State then closed the match in the fourth set, overcoming a 10-5 deficit and using a late surge to pull away for a 26-24 win and seal the match.

The Raiders finished the afternoon with 63 kills and a .207 team attacking percentage while holding High Point to a matching .207 hitting mark. Wright State held advantages in kills (63-49), assists (60-45), digs (93-97) and service aces (7-3), while recording 4.5 team blocks.

Katie Sowko paced the offensive attack with a match-high 20 kills and added 13 digs for a double-double. Mya Ayro recorded 16 kills while adding four service aces, and Reilly Zegunis finished with 14 kills. Haley Robinson chipped in six kills, while Abbey Knight added four kills and four blocks.

Lauren Yacobucci directed the offense with 52 assists and added 13 digs for a double-double. Taygan Corstange anchored the back line with 22 digs, while Ella Gaona contributed 10 digs and Greta McKee added 12 digs as Wright State placed five players in double figures defensively.

The fourth set proved decisive as the Raiders erased a five-point deficit and used a 10-2 stretch late in the frame to take control. Wright State closed the match with kills from Sowko and Yacobucci after High Point had rallied to tie the score at 24-24.

Élodie Lalonde led High Point with 13 kills, while Gabby Hill added 12 kills. Remy Catojo recorded 38 assists for the Panthers in the loss.
