EAST LANSING, MI – The Wright State volleyball team opened play at the Kathy DeBoer Invitational with a straight-set victory over Drake on Friday afternoon, earning a 3-0 sweep inside the Breslin Center.

Wright State (5-5) will be back in action Saturday evening against Michigan State. Action against the Spartans gets underway at 6 p.m. Fans can follow all the action on B1G+.

The Raiders controlled the first two sets before battling through a tight third frame to complete the sweep. Wright State took the opener 25-17 behind an early 9-4 advantage before hitting .556 in the second set on the way to a dominant 25-9 victory. Drake pushed the Raiders in the third set and held a 21-18 lead late, but Wright State closed on an 8-3 run to secure a 26-24 win and finish off the match.

Wright State hit .295 as a team and finished with 49 kills while holding Drake to a .156 attacking percentage. The Raiders also recorded advantages in assists (44-35), digs (57-55), service aces (5-5) and team blocks (5-3).

Mya Ayro led the offensive attack with a match-high 13 kills while hitting .258. Reilly Zegunis added nine kills and four blocks, while Katie Sowko finished with seven kills and a team-high 14 digs. Abbey Knight contributed seven kills and three blocks, and Haley Robinson chipped in five kills.

Lauren Yacobucci directed the offense with 36 assists while adding nine digs and a kill. Taygan Corstange anchored the back line with 16 digs, while Greta McKee collected 10 digs and two service aces as the Raiders placed three players in double figures defensively.

After cruising through the first two sets, Wright State showed resilience in the third. The Raiders erased a three-point deficit late in the frame, tying the score at 21-21 before kills from Katie Sowko and Haidyn Sokoloski helped force extra points. A block by Zegunis and Yacobucci gave Wright State match point before Sowko delivered a match-ending service ace to complete the comeback.

Caroline Smith paced Drake with eight kills, while Lisa Melenciano added eight kills and Kamryn Behrns contributed six. Katie Quick recorded 31 assists for the Bulldogs in the loss.
