Men’s Soccer Returns Home to Face Northern Illinois Saturday

DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team (3-5-1, 2-1 HL) returns home to Alumni Field and jumps back into Horizon League play Saturday evening as they welcome Northern Illinois to town. First touch is slated for 6 p.m.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois enters the weekend at 4-3-1 on the season and an even 1-1-1 in Horizon League play. The Huskies are coming off a 2-1 loss at home to Milwaukee a week ago. Luka Vasic leads the team offensively with six points, trailed closely by Roman Khela, Stevan Ljubicic, and Vance Sheffield, all with five points each.
HISTORY VS. NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Saturday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between Wright State and Northern Illinois, a series that is all tied up at 4-4-1. This is the first meeting between the Raiders and the Huskies since 2004, when Wright State came up short 2-1 in overtime.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders fell on the road Tuesday night, dropping a 6-0 decision to Xavier at Corcoran Field.
Xavier took the lead in the seventh minute when Ely Detty scored an unassisted goal to put the Musketeers in front 1-0.
The Musketeers added two more goals before halftime. Gerard Lorente scored in the 32nd minute off an assist from Reece Cousino before Nolan Brice found the back of the net in the 38th minute off a pass from Alejandro Silvestrini, giving Xavier a 3-0 lead at the break.
Xavier extended its lead early in the second half. Lorente netted his second goal of the match in the 51st minute before Beckham Williams scored 21 seconds later to make it 5-0. Osi Onwudiwe added the final goal in the 60th minute as the Musketeers secured the victory.
Ben Schultheis played all 90 minutes in goal for the Raiders and recorded six saves. Djafar Al Badawi accounted for Wright State's lone shot on goal, while Tyler Coleman, Rowen Arnold and Alessandro Duran each added a shot.
In the box score, Wright State trailed Xavier in shots (25-4), shots on goal (12-1) and corner kick opportunities (10-0).
LAST SEASON REWIND
Wright State finished 2025 with a 2-13-1 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Horizon League play. Three Raiders earned Horizon League All-League honors in 2025, with Henry Hutchinson and Roman Kedgley being named to the All-League Third Team, while Alessandro Malterer was named a finalist for the Sportsmanship award.
