Steph Comisar, a 5-7 senior guard on the Wright State women's basketball team, has been named as the Horizon League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 17, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Comisar set a new career high with 21 points in a 55-49 home setback to Wake Forest on Thursday, December 14. She also set or tied career best in field goals with seven, three-pointers with five, rebounds with five and steals with three. Over her last two games, Comisar has netted 40 points.
Off the court, Comisar holds a 3.27 grade point average in accountancy. She has received Wright State's highest honors once and high honors twice while also being named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in both the spring and fall last year.
The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week award for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives from nominations provided by sports information directors.
Comisar joins junior forward Whitney Lewis as WSU recipients of this honor this year.
Wright State returns to action tonight as the Raiders are at Marshall for a 7:00 contest. WSU is back at home on Friday, December 22, in hosting crosstown rival Dayton.
