The Wright State baseball team dropped their first Horizon League series of the season on Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium. The Raiders fell 2-1 to Milwaukee in the rubber game of their three game series on a soggy afternoon.
The Panthers tallied the first run of the game in the third inning with a trio of two-out hits. Kyle Silver led the inning off with a single and Jesse Hart singled to put two runners on-base. Rob Brockel then ripped a double into the left-center field gap to score Silver and put UWM ahead, 1-0.
Kearcher lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing only one run, allowing six hits and striking out six. The senior (4-2) walked three and allowed only three base runners to reach third base before Scott Ruthven entered the contest.
Ruthven relieved Kearcher in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and struck out a batter and coaxed a flyball out to end the threat.
UWM added to their lead in the eighth inning when the first three batters reached base safely and one run scored. With no outs and runners on first and second, Jason Bennion came on and recorded the last two outs to hold the Panthers lead at 2-0.
The Raiders offense got a jump start from their lead-off man Dan Biedenharn then sent a fly ball to right field, scoring Oeder to cut the lead to 2-1.
After Bennion held the Panthers scoreless in the ninth, the Raiders couldn't muster any offense in their half of the inning, as Luczak retired the side in order.
Luczak threw a complete game to improve to 2-4 on the season, striking out six and allowing one unearned run.
Offensively for the Green and Gold, Biedenharn collected two hits and drove in the only run of the game. Oeder collected a hit and scored the lone Raider runs, while Jeremy Hamilton, Casey McGrew and Stephen Marquez round out the Raiders offense.
Wright State now stands at an even 11-11 on the season and fall to 5-4 in Horizon League action. The Raiders game against Wilmington, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 1, has been postponed to April 30. The next action for the Green and Gold will be at 6:30 on Tuesday, April 3 against Cedarville at Nischwitz Stadium.
