
Golden Goal Lifts Men's Soccer Over WKU, 1-0

The 2007 season opened at the Michigan State Classic on Friday afternoon for the Wright State men's soccer team. The Raiders needed two overtimes to decide their contest with Western Kentucky, as Tony Labudovski netted the golden goal in 105th minute.
The Green and Gold opened the first half slow, taking only three shots, but put the pressure on in the second half. The Raiders launched six shots, forcing WKU keeper Pat Rickman to make three saves, and held the Hilltoppers to only one shot.
The two teams were scoreless through regulation as WSU netminder Tebias Mason recorded four saves.
In the first overtime the two teams against couldn't find the back of the net, with WKU holding a two-to-one edge in shots. In the second half, WSU needed only one shot as Labudovski connected for the golden goal.
In the 105th minute, the play started as Jonah Longino launched a shot that deflected off the crossbar and found Labudovski. The senior then headed the ball into the net, past a diving WKU keeper, to give WSU its first win of the season.
The Green and Gold outshot WKU 11-9 and Mason recorded his fourth career shutout in the victory. Labudovski was the only Raider to attempt more than one shot, with four in the game.
The Raiders are now 1-0 this season and will continue action in the Michigan State Classic on Sunday, September 2. Wright State will face off with Oregon State in their final game of the tournament at 10:30 a.m. on the MSU campus.
