Box Score The Wright State women's soccer team played their first overtime match of the 2007 season on Friday evening at Bowling Green. The Raiders netted the first tally of the match, but BGSU tied the match late in the first half. Jess Rooma netted the golden goal in the 100th minute to give WSU a 2-1 triumph in overtime.
The Green and Gold opened the match with the first shot on goals, as Jess Rooma struck pay dirt and gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The goal was set up by a BGSU foul around midfield. On the restart, Megan Mattioda served a ball into the penalty box and Rooma hit a solid shot to give WSU the 1-0 edge. It was the first marker of the season for Rooma and Mattioda recorded her first helper of the season on the tally.
Bowling Green tied the game in the 45th minute as Jackie Tamerlano netted her first tally of the season with twenty-eight seconds left in the stanza.
The Raiders took the offensive in the second half, out-shooting the Falcons nine-to-one and took three corner kicks to BGSU's one.
The two teams heading into overtime and WSU kept the pressure with four shots and allowed Bowling Green only one attempt at the net. The golden goal came in the 100th minute and again was set up but a Mattioda kick.
With only twelve second left in the extra period, Mattioda teed up a corner kick and set it sailing towards the net. The BGSU keeper punched the ball out into the penalty box and after a scramble for the ball Rooma laced a shot into back of the net.
Rooma tallied two goals in a match for the second time in her career and netted her second game winning marker in the past two seasons. Mattioda added one assist in the match and now has 12 for her career and is tied for ninth on the All-Time WSU Assists list. Mattioda sits in a tie with Kelly Kammer, Kathie Peterson and Amy Teetor.
The Raiders end their four-match road trip with a victory and improve to 4-2 overall this season. WSU will return home for a match with Cincinnati on Sunday, September 16, at Alumni Field. The Green and Gold will kickoff against the Bearcats at 5:00 in their first meeting since 1995.
