Women Advance in HL Tournament with Win Over Cleveland State

Box Score

Sophomore Jen Agueci netted a hat trick and Bekah Bonny added another marker to help the Wright State women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Cleveland State in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament Sunday at Alumni Field.

The Raiders got the scoring started in the fourth minute when Agueci took a pass from sophomore Amber Kasmer and chipped a shot over the head of the CSU keeper and into the net for her second goal of the 2008 campaign.

Agueci struck again in the first half when she took a lead pass from Amy Miller and set a shot into the upper 90 of the far post to push WSU out to a 2-0 lead at the 27:52 mark.

The Vikings would connect on their lone tally in the 39th minute when Danielle Ultican scored off of a corner kick from Natalie Daniels to cut the WSU lead to 2-1 at the half.

Wright State would add their third goal of the match at the 83:16 mark when Nicole Amador dribbled down the left flank and sent a sharp crossing pass to Bonny at the goal line. Bonny controlled the ball and tapped in her fourth goal of the season to push WSU ahead, 3-1.

Agueci would become the third Raider in the past two seasons to record a hat trick at the 88:45 mark, when she scored for the third time in the contest. She rebounded her own shot and taped it into the net past a diving Vikings keeper to account for the final margin of 4-1. Agueci joins Miller and Kasmer as the only players on the WSU squad with hat tricks in their career.

Cleveland State (8-10-1) outshot the Raiders 16-13 in the match and took six corner kicks to four for the Green and Gold. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Hackerson made six saves in the match – five in the first half – and picked up her 10th victory in goal this season.

The Raiders improve to 10-8-1 overall and post their fourth consecutive 10-win season under head coach Pat Ferguson. Wright State will now head to Loyola to play their semifinal match in the Horizon League Tournament against the second seeded Panthers of Milwaukee starting at 5:00 Eastern Time on Friday, November 7.
