Softball Sweeps Pair at Frost Classic

After dropping two at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga on Friday, the Wright State softball team bounced back with a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Tennessee Tech 6-1 and Evansville 11-3.
Tennessee Tech scored an unearned run in the first, but that would be the only run Raider starter Sharon Palma would give up as she struck out 10 in throwing a three-hitter.
WSU tallied an unearned run of its own in the second before breaking the game open with five in the sixth. With one out, the Raiders loaded the bases on walks to Kristen Bradshaw and Mollie Berry along with a China Frost hit to center. Jamie Perkins walked to force in a run and three more scored as Malerie Klingler singled to right and advanced to third on an error. Klingler then scored on a passed ball for the final run.
Louie Haney had two hits to lead the Wright State offense.
Against Evansville, the Raiders scored twice in the first on RBI singles from Bradshaw and Berry and two more in the second on Katie Kine's two-run homer to left center, her first of the season.
Wright State added two more in the third on a two-run single by Haney and capped off the day with five in the sixth to force the run-rule. Klingler and Kine each had two-run doubles in the frame with the other run coming in as Haney reached on an infield single.
Palma (4-3) picked up her second win of the day, striking out three in four innings of work. Melanie Heyne earned her first save of the year as she did not allow a run over the final two innings, fanning two.
Klingler finished four-for-four with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the offense while Haney also had four hits and three RBI, Kine two hits, two runs scored and four RBI and Frost and Berry added two hits each.
Wright State (4-7) wraps up play at the Frost Classic Sunday, taking on Rutgers at 10:00.
