The Wright State softball team fell behind 3-0 in game one and led 4-0 in game two, but the end result was the same for both as the Raiders dropped a pair of games at Marshall Wednesday afternoon, falling 5-4 in nine innings in the opener and 9-4 in the nightcap.

Trailing 3-0 in game one, WSU tied it with three in the fourth. After the Raiders loaded the bases on walks by Allison Cox and Mollie Berry and Justine Shilt was hit by a pitch, Katie Kine delivered a pinch-hit, two-out double to left to drive in all three runners.

It stayed that way as the game headed into extra innings. Wright State scored a run in the top of the eighth on a Marshall throwing error, but the Thundering Herd tied it again at four with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame and tacked on the winning run in the ninth.

Melanie Heyne (5-11) was the tough-luck loser despite not giving up an earned run in five innings of relief.

WSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two on a pair of two-run singles by Cox and Kine and had three hits overall in the first inning, but didn't collect another hit the rest of the game. Marshall answered with two in its half of the first, took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth and added three more in the sixth.

Wright State (13-22-1) returns to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game series at Youngstown State, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00.
