
Women Fall to #13/11 Green Bay in HL Semifinals

An early 9-0 run put Green Bay in front to stay and the #13/11 Phoenix exploded for 56 points in the second half as Wright State fell 95-65 in the semifinals of the Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship at the Kress Events Center in Green Bay Friday night.
The Raiders tied it twice in the early going, the second being 6-6 on a LaShawna Thomas jumper at the 16:26 mark of the first half, only to see Green Bay follow with nine straight points to take the lead for good.
The margin was 10 in the final minute of the period before a Lydia Bauer three and a Julie Woyta basket helped the Phoenix take a 39-25 halftime lead.
Green Bay shot 41 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and was a perfect 12 for 12 from the foul line compared to 38 percent shooting and six of eight from the stripe for WSU. The Phoenix also forced 12 turnovers while committing seven, resulting in a 14-0 differential in points off of turnovers.
Wright State would get no closer than 13 in the second half as Green Bay outscored the Raiders 56-40 in the period. The Phoenix hit 19 of 39 shots the final 20 minutes, including nine of 20 from three-point range, while WSU was at 38 percent, but just one of seven from behind the arc.
For the game, Green Bay shot 46 percent and was 12 of 32 from three compared to 38 percent and two of 13 from three for the Raiders. The Phoenix also led 23-2 in points off of turnovers.
Thomas led Wright State (19-12) with 21 points, 13 coming in the first half, while Ta-myra Davis and Shaunda Sandifer each had 13, both scoring 11 after halftime.
Bauer scored a career-high 27 off the bench to pace Green Bay (31-1) while Kayla Tetschlag had 18, Celeste Hoewisch 17 and Woyta posted a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
