Women's Soccer Advances to HL Championship Match

Box Score

For the second straight season, the Wright State women's soccer team will play in the Horizon League championship match as an Emilie Fillion goal gave the Raiders a 1-0 semifinal win over Detroit Friday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Fillion, who scored the only goal in WSU's 1-0 first-round win at Youngstown State on Tuesday, did the same against the Titans as she came up with a takeaway just outside of the box and beat Detroit goalkeeper Nora Abolins for her seventh goal of the season at the 35:18 mark of the first half.

Detroit led 18-8 in shots, including 11-2 in the first half, but keeper Brooke McCurdy and the rest of the Raider defense maintained the shutout, Wright State's 10 of the season.  McCurdy posted her eighth complete shutout of the year as she recorded six saves.

Wright State (9-4-6) will face host Milwaukee in Sunday's final at 2:00 Eastern. The two teams met in last year's final, with the Panthers winning 5-1, but the Raiders won this year's regular-season match 1-0 in double overtime on September 22 as Allie Metzler headed in a goal with two seconds remaining.
