Box Score The Wright State women's soccer team rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two Ini Umotong goals, only to see Butler score the winning goal 39 seconds later as the Bulldogs defeated the Raiders 4-3 Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
After Butler opened the scoring at the 12:30 mark of the first half, the Raiders tied it just over four minutes later as senior forward Emilie Fillion delivered a free kick to senior defender Liz Soto, who headed the ball into the left corner of the goal for her first goal of the season. It was the second assist of the year for Fillion.
The Bulldogs looked to be control as they built a 3-1 lead with a goal late in the first half and another at the 58:58 mark of the second half, but Umotong struck twice to get the Raiders even. The first goal for the sophomore forward came at the 75:37 mark as she scored off a pass from the left side by freshman forward Paige Aguilera, the first assist of her collegiate career.
Umotong tied it at the 83:04 mark as sophomore forward Natalie Sedlock knocked down a pass from midfield by Soto and delivered it to Umotong, who drilled the short shot for her third goal of the season, all three coming in the last two matches. It was the first assist of the season for both Sedlock and Soto.
Butler (6-1-2), however, wasted no time in taking the lead for good as the Bulldogs scored just 39 seconds later on a goal by Elise Kotsakis.
The Bulldogs led 17-11 in shots as WSU goalkeepers Brooke McCurdy and Halle Pyle combined for six saves.
Wright State (2-3-3) faces another tough test on Sunday at 1:00 as the Raiders head to Morgantown to face the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are ranked #25 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
