Softball Advances With 5-3 Win Over Green Bay

Green Bay scored three runs in the first, but it was all Wright State from there as the Raiders rallied for a 5-3 win in a Horizon League Softball Tournament elimination game Friday morning in Rochester, Michigan.
The Phoenix used three hits, a walk and an error in scoring three times in the top of the first and maintained that advantage until WSU cut the deficit to one with a pair of runs in the third. With one out, Honnah Susor walked and Jess Gorman advanced to second with a bunt. Hanna Floyd followed with a hit up the middle to plate Susor and went to second on the throw to the plate. After Floyd moved up to third on a wild pitch, Becka Peterson drove her in with a double to left.
Wright State then took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth. Angie Clark reached on an infield hit to start the frame and went to second on an Alexis Mayle bunt. A Susor infield hit put runners on the corners and after Susor stole second, both runners scored on a Gorman double to center.
Gorman was retired on the play, but the rally didn't die there as Floyd was hit by a pitch, moved up to second on a Peterson hit through the left side and scored as Reagan Stofcheck singled up the middle.
Ashley Sharp (10-11) came on in relief with one out in the Green Bay second and, from that point on, limited the Phoenix to just two hits over the final 5.2 innings, a single in the third and a double in the fifth. She struck out four in picking up her third win of the tournament and did not walk a batter.
Offensively, Susor and Peterson each had two hits while Susor and Floyd each scored twice.
Wright State (22-32) will now face the loser of the winner's bracket final between Oakland and UIC at 3:30 Friday afternoon.
