The Wright State track team competed Friday in the first day of the Jesse Owens Track Classic, held in Columbus.
Senior Alexandra Brown came in sixth in the 5000 meter run with a school-record time of 16:50.48, breaking a record that had stood in Raider history since April 28, 2001 (Jessica Kuhr, 17:14.05).
"It is nothing short of unbelievable what Alex has accomplished in her senior year," said WSU head coach Rick Williamson. "But make no mistake, she has worked extremely diligently over the last four years and is now putting all the pieces together."
Sophomore Hailey Brumfield, not far behind Brown, placed 17th, with a time of 17:31.95. Senior Jessica Doepker ran a season best in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:40.88. Sophomore Aurora Turner ran a personal best in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:14.35.
The Classic concludes on Saturday.
