Raiders take top two spots in High Jump to highlight HL Indoor action

YOUNGSTOWN – The Wright State men's and women's track & field programs wrapped up action at the 2026 Horizon League Indoor Championships on Sunday, with Thomas Cook and Nathan Bright bringing home the top two spots in the men's high jump to lead the Raiders.

Overall, the Raider men finished sixth, with the Wright State women ninth.

Cook, a freshman, cleared 2.06m to grab the high jump title, with fellow freshman Bright missing at the 2.06m height to settle for second with his 2.03m clearance. A third Raider freshman, Landon Monnin, and teammate Aboubacar Soumahoro both clearing 1.97m. Monnin cleared on his second attempt to finish sixth, with Soumahoro clearning the mark on his third and final attempt to finish seventh.

On the track, the Raiders saw men's and women's student-athletes advance from the qualifiers on Saturday into Sunday's finals in both the 60m and 800m races. In the men's 800m, Gavin Hutchinson clocked a 1:52.80 time to finish fourth with teammate Wyatt Medure moments behind in seventh at 1:58.71. Mia Wyngarden turned in a 2:15.05 mark in the women's 800m to finish sixth. Hannah Falknor tallying a 7.68 second time in the women's 60m final to finish fifth, with Jude Elkins finishing seventh in the men's 60m final with his 7.09 second time.

Kaitlyn Miller secured a pair of Top 10 showings in the distance events, finishing eighth in the women's 5,000m run with a 17:27.83 time and adding a 10th-place finish with her 10:07.20 mark in the women's 3,000m run. Eric Dando was 10th in the men's 3,000m run with his 14:50.50 time, while Evan McPherson (8:28.07) and Emmitt Slabach (8:28.31) were 12th and 13th, respectively, in the men's 3,000m run.

Wright State will take a couple of weeks off before the Raiders get the outdoor season underway on March 20 with the Blizzard Buster hosted by Miami (OH), the first of eight meets ahead of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships May 8-10.
