@WSU_WSoccer Drops Road Contest at Cleveland State

The Wright State women's soccer team was back in action in the Horizon League on Sunday, when they rounded out their short two-match road trip against the Vikings of Cleveland State. In a battle of teams that were each 5-1-1 in the Horizon League coming into the match, the Raiders surrendered a goal in the second half, and were unable to convert a late penalty kick with the chance to tie the match.
 
First Half
In regards to shots, the first half was relatively quiet, with the Vikings holding a slight 6-2 advantage. Andrea Gomez was shown a yellow card after a challenge in the second minute of the match. Both teams managed just one shot on goal in the first frame, which were each turned away by the respective keepers.
 
Second Half
The Vikings began to take control of the match in the second frame, opening up a large advantage in the shots department. In the 66th minute of the match, Sarah Krause for CSU netted her fifth goal of the season from in close after a far post cross from Dani Sowinski, putting the Vikings on top 1-0. In the 86th minute, a foul on Cleveland State in the Raiders' offensive box gave the green and gold a penalty kick, and a golden opportunity to bring the match level. Mattie Cutts stepped up to the spot for her first attempt of the season but pushed the shot right of the net. The Raiders would run out of time in the match, losing just their second Horizon League match of the season.

Up Next
The Raiders will round out the home portion of their schedule, as well as the regular season on Friday when the Titans of Detroit Mercy head to Alumni Field. Kick-off on senior night for the Raiders is scheduled for 7:00 pm, with senior day festivities preceding the opening whistle.
