Raiders set for rematch with Detroit Mercy with season on the line

Women's Soccer AJ Schraffenberger

@WSU_WSoccer to Host Horizon League Quarterfinal Match Monday Night

The Wright State women's soccer team will host one of two Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals matches tonight, as they will look to avenge Friday's 1-0 overtime loss against the Detroit Mercy Titans. With the season on the line, Monday night's 7:00 pm match is sure to be must-see entertainment.

Raider Round-Up
The green and gold have qualified for the Horizon League Tournament for the fourth straight season, and will host a quarterfinal match for the third time in that span. The Raiders (6-8-2, 5-3-1 Horizon League, 4th place) were led offensively all season by Horizon League Player of the Year Aaliyah Patten, who finished the regular season with four goals and five assists. Although Wright State has lost their last two matches, head coach Patrick Ferguson does not seem overly concerned with his team's recent form. "I think we can use these two matches as a learning experience," said Ferguson. "The way we responded after the Cleveland State game should be the way we try to respond after Friday's tough loss." Junior goalkeeper Maddie Jewell's goals against average continues to plummet as the season has progressed, averaging less than a goal per game in the last five matches. The Raiders will surely be ready for Monday's match after losing to Detroit Mercy just three days ago at Alumni Field in the final match of the regular season. "It's hard to beat a team twice in a row," Ferguson commented. "We expect a tough contest tonight but we'll be prepared."

Scouting Detroit Mercy
The Raiders knew what to expect heading into Friday's match against the Titans, and that is exactly what they got; a low-scoring contest with plenty of quality defense for both sides. Detroit Mercy (8-7-3, 4-4-1 Horizon League, 5th place) secured their place in the tournament by winning their last five matches overall, including a crucial victory Friday over the Raiders to clinch the five seed. Carly Fiorido was the goal scoring leader for the Titans during the regular season, while Julie Ann Piechocki led the team with 13 points on the season. The Titans played nine overtime matches this season, and with the Raiders style of play being so similar, it would not be a surprise to see another exciting overtime contest on Monday night at Alumni Field.

Admission and Coverage
Monday night's tournament game will be ticketed the same way as a regular season match, and the green and gold will be looking for as much fan support as possible! The match will also be streaming live on ESPN+, with live stats available through wsuraiders.com.
