10/31/2018 3:43:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Wright State men's basketball team will open its season next Wednesday night against Western Carolina but decisively won its final tune-up of the preseason 86-51 over Notre Dame College at home on Halloween.
Three Raiders scored in double digits, led by Bill Wampler with 18, Cole Gentry 13 and Skyelar Potter 11. Wampler and Parker Ernsthausen each finished with six rebounds as Mark Hughes and Ernsthausen each had four assists. Ernsthausen also collected four steals. WSU shot 47% overall from the field and 34% from three-point range while holding the Falcons to just 33% from the field and just three threes. Wright State scored 36 points in the paint and 19 off turnovers with 36 off the bench.
First Half
The Raiders struggled at times but they held a 41-32 lead going into the locker room. Notre Dame won the boards in the initial 20 minutes 22-20 but the Raiders hit seven threes and forced six turnovers. Wampler scored 13 of his 18 in the first half as Gentry pitched in eight points.
Second Half
Wright State hit five more threes in the second half and outrebounded NDC 20-13 while their defense forced 10 more turnovers. WSU outscored their opponent 45-19, scoring 24 points in the paint. The Raiders also collected 15 points off turnovers. Alan Vest had all of his seven points in the half while Wampler, Gentry, Manns and Ernsthausen each had five points.
Nagy Says
"We rebounded better in the second half, and played better. We had offensive rebounds and limited their rebounding as they shot only 29% so that was a difference from the first half. We decided to get more physical and rebound."
